Rear Lounge Extension, Garage Conversion & Garden Transformation.

The job started at the back of the house: breaking out the old patio, digging and pouring foundations, and setting out the new extension against the existing rear elevation. You can see the gable line chalked straight onto the brickwork in the photo — everything sized off the existing house so the new roof would tie in cleanly rather than being fudged at the abutment.

From there it was blockwork and facing brickwork chosen to match the original red brick, a new tiled roof with a rooflight over the lounge, and anthracite glazing throughout to bring the elevation up to date.

The extension is a single-storey rear addition under a tiled lean-to roof, with a large anthracite window to the side elevation and a rooflight set into the slope. The rooflight was deliberate — it pulls daylight deep into the plan so the new lounge never feels like a back room bolted onto the house.

Brickwork, roof tiles, fascia and gutter were all specified to sit comfortably alongside the original build. From the garden the extension reads as part of the house, not an afterthought.

Outside, the entire garden was reworked around the new building line. We laid a large porcelain patio running the full width of the rear elevation with a pathway down the side return, built low retaining walls in charcoal brick to hold the levels, and finished with brick-on-edge edging between hard landscaping and lawn.

Levels were set so surface water falls away from the house, with the patio stepping down cleanly at the thresholds. The result is a clean, contemporary outside space that's genuinely usable for entertaining and family life — and it makes the extension look like it was always meant to be there.

From the initial groundworks and foundations through to the brickwork, roofing, glazing, landscaping and final finishing touches, every stage was completed with care, precision and attention to detail.

The extension has created a bright, spacious lounge flooded with natural light, the garage conversion has provided valuable additional accommodation, and the new patio, retaining walls, pathways and landscaped garden have completely transformed the outside space.
